Lecture 10
Linear algebra review.
I returned the quizzes today and answered some
questions regarding the quiz. I have been asked (by e-mail) to go over all of
the quiz questions. I will do this for all subsequent quizzes. If I am reminded
I will review all of the quiz questions when I get back on October 14.
I reviewed some basic facts regarding
matrices, such as addition of matrices, multiplication of a matrix by a scalar,
a vector and a matrix. I also reviewed the MATLAB syntax to accomplish these
operations.
I then looked at vector
norms. We saw the properties that are required of all norms. I introduced the so
called p-norms, and highlighted the three most important of these. The L1, L2
(Euclidean) and Linfinity norms.
I will
be away for the next week. Lectures will be given by Chris McAloney. Thus these
web logs will stop for a week. When I return I will ask Chris to fill me in on
the details. I will then summarize his lectures on this web log so that we all
have a complete record.
