I hold a BScH and a PhD from the University of Toronto and a MSc from Queen's University.
In 1984, I joined Queen's University and am currently a Professor in the School of Computing and a Visiting Scientist with IBM's Centre for Advanced Studies.
I have served as Associate Director of the School of Computing from 2002 to 2007 and Acting Director in 2004.
My research interests include database system performance, cloud computing, data analytics, and autonomic computing systems.

Current Research

I am the director of the Database Systems Lab. Our current research projects span topics in database management systems, cloud computing and services management. We collaborate with researchers at IBM CAS, CA Labs and Distributed System Architecture Group at Complutense University in Madrid.
I am the principal investigator for two collaborative research projects: Enabling Elastic Services and Delivering Ultra Large Scale Services.
Our research is generously supported by NSERC, ORF-RE, MITACS, IBM CAS, CA Technologies, Amazon AWS and SOSCIP.
