I hold a BScH and a PhD from the University of Toronto and a MSc from Queen's University.
In 1984, I joined Queen's University and am currently a Professor in the School of Computing and a Visiting Scientist with IBM's Centre for Advanced Studies.
I have served as Associate Director of the School of Computing from 2002 to 2007 and Acting Director in 2004.
My research interests include big data analytics, cloud computing, database system performance, and self-adaptive software systems.

Students in our lab are eligible to participate in the NSERC CREATE graduate specialization in Ultra Large-Scale Software Systems.
I am teaching the following courses in the 2015 - 16 academic year:

I am the director of the Database Systems Lab. Our current research projects span topics in big data analytics, cloud computing and self-adaptive systems. We collaborate with researchers at IBM CAS, and
Distributed System Architecture Group at Complutense University in Madrid.
I am the principal investigator for the collaborative research project Delivering Ultra Large Scale Services.
Our research is generously supported by NSERC, ORF-RE, MITACS, IBM CAS, Amazon AWS and SOSCIP.
