Due Date: October 2, 2003.
Students are required to produce a short paper examining one of the topics discussed in Part VII (Chapters 22 – 29) of the text book. Read one or more of these chapters and pick a topic from this material. The paper should be 5 – 7 pages (double-spaced). It should explain the topic and go into depth on some aspect of the topic, such as particular technique, algorithm, model or system. The goal of the paper is to explain what was learned about the topic. Use the material from the text book as a starting point and then find and use at least 1 related research paper from the references given in the chapters.
For example, on the topic parallel query processing one could explain the important issues in the parallel environment, describe common architectures and then discuss popular parallel join algorithms.
