Students are required to produce a survey paper providing an in-depth discussion of a particular topic or problem in database systems. The topic must be different from the topic chosen in Assignment 1. The paper must examine a topic not covered in the lectures or must expand upon a topic that was covered in class. Students should collect reference papers on their particular topic and then carry out a critical examination of that topic.
Provide a 2-page proposal for your paper. You should include an abstract of the paper, an outline of the contents of the paper, and a list of references. Your references must include at least two research papers.
The paper should be 15 - 20 pages (double-spaced). It should introduce a topic or problem, survey relevant techniques and/or solutions, and provide a critical analysis of those techniques. It is expected that a paper will study a topic in more depth than is done in class.
The following is a list of possible topics. Students are free to choose from this list or to choose another topic.
