These
projects are offered by Dr. Rob Harrap of Geology. He is willing
to supervise two students. Some of these projects could lead to
summer work or graduate theses. Dr. Harrap also has a connection
with Ubisoft - the game projects could lead to an internship with that
company.
1) Situated Annotation: Refinement of an iPhone
application to support place-based annotation of urban features.
We have an iPhone web app that allows rapid urban markup. This would
extend that. I have a programmer on the project so the student would
have support and would take a particular component to update. The most
likely target would be writing a filtering mechanism to support
interest-based subsetting...
2) WarCraft On Campus: Playing WarCraft III on Campus using
GPS - enabled Notebook Computers
We have a modified Warcraft III game that is set on campus. I'd like
someone to enable GPS positioning in the game so your position on the
map is your position on campus.
3) Development of ArcGIS Urban Analysis Tools for high resolution urban mapping.
Essentially design and develop a prototype set of urban mapping tools that extend ArcGIS
4) Testing and Refinement of Oracle-based storage of urban 3d objects (CityGML)
There is a tool that stores CityGML urban models in Oracle 11i. We'd like it tested and refined.
5) Procedural Generation of Urban Micro-Scenes for Gaming using
3d Studio Max
Lots of interest in procedural generation lately. Building a
micro-generator (e.g. areas of 1 city block or less) would be cool.
Some historical work in our group on this.
