To compile "demoras" type "make -f makefile.ras"
To compile "demopbm" type "make -f makefile.pbm"

If you are using "xv" to convert a file to the pbm format,
-after the file original file is loaded
-click on "save" 
-then choose "PBM" and "Greyscale" in the options window
