Research Methods in Computing Science
Course coordinator: Kai Salomaa
This course provides an introduction to the primary and
secondary sources of information in the computing science literature.
Faculty discuss their own research objectives and present an
overview of research issues in the major subject areas of computing.
Students are required to submit and present a paper on a
topic that relates to their research.
Evaluation
- Presentation in class: 25 %. The length of your presentation
should be 20 - 25 minutes (no more than 25 minutes).
The presentations are graded
by the course coordinator based on feedback from your fellow students.
- Research paper: 65 % . The paper should have length 9 - 14 pages.
The paper must be submitted in hardcopy both to your supervisor
and to the CISC-897 coordinator by April 5. Two copies: one given
to your supervisor and one given to cisc897 coordinator.
The paper is graded
by your supervisor.
- Class attendance: 10 %. Attending the talks is required and
attendance sheets will be used.
