Lecture 1.

We started with a review of administrative details. We agreed that there would be no tutorials in week 1. I also suggested that we scrap the early morning tutorials, and move people into one of the afternoon sessions instead. There seems to be no objection with cancelling the Monday morning slot. However, the Thursday morning slot may remain because of scheduling conflicts. I plan to poll students on this at the next lecture on Wednesday.

Academic matters began with a simple sample problem involving laser lights and pillars. We came up with an O(n2) algorithm. On Tuesday we will take a closer look at Big-O notation. We will also revisit the pillar problem and see a more efficient solution.
