Overview

Course Purpose

CISC 499 is the capstone most CISC plans, that is, a course that integrates material from earlier courses by having you work on a course-long project. CISC 498 and COGS 499 are the capstones of other honours programs. You will apply what you have learned about computing so far, learn additional material during the course (mostly on your own), and put it all into practice by writing a report and possibly implementing a substantial piece of software.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the successful student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate the potential for independent research and/or development via a term-long project under the supervision of a faculty member.
  2. Describe the process and results of their independent project via a written report.
  3. Summarize the key ideas of their independent project via an oral or poster presentation.

Supervisor and Coordinator

For 2016-17 the coordinator is David Lamb. The sole responsibility of the coordinator is to manage administration, such as recording of grades. You will interact throughout the term with a faculty member supervisor, who is responsible for grading your report and work. A team of evaluators will judge your poster presentation on Creative Computing Day.
