Organic Wireless Sensor NetworksThe over-deployment of WSNs renders many sensing nodes redundant in functionality, and inflates the cost of running applications; not to mention the resulting wireless medium contention. In this direction we present a novel approach to expanding the operational scale of WSNs by adapting to the environment in which it is deployed. That is, capitalizing on an organic approach in thriving on available resources in the region of interest to reduce deployment cost, and solicit incentivized interaction among communicating resources to deliver dynamic sensing.
Not only does this span a new dimension of reliability, over garnered resources, but presents a novel approach to assigning sensing tasks to available resources in correlation to their abundance and serviceability. |

Leveraging Big Sensed Data in the IoTThe advent of Big Data research, and the significant impact of sensors in it, demand novel directions in handling the overhead of real-time sensing and reporting. Now, a single flight could generate half a Terabyte of data from its sensors. The overhead of communicating huge amounts of data is both intractable and un-sustainable, even if we choose to overlook the cost of storage.
In this direction I build upon the evolution of Big Sensed Data (BSD), and highlight the current challenges and potential research directions to address them. Most importantly, I aim to establish measures to prune BSD over heterogeneous devices, and the factors that will aid us in devising such dynamic pruning systems. |
